Object documentationBar Code

A bar code is a series of lines (bars) and spaces affixed to merchandise items to identify their product number or other attributes such as price and description. The bars and spaces represent numbers and other symbols.

You can define product bar codes in the Bar Code Maintenance Screen. You can also configure bar codes through Item Entry Control Maintenance.

To create a bar code, you need to determine the position and length, within the bar code, for each of the bar code elements listed below.

Example Example

If you set up the store number element to begin at position 3 and provide a length of 5, then in the defined bar code the store number starts at the third digit of the bar code and is five digits long.

End of the example.

You can also attach a bar code to a tender or a manager code. This can also print it on the transaction receipt when the related tender or manager code is invoked.

The masks are a set of digits or characters that are positioned at the beginning (prefix) or the end (suffix) of the bar code. This set of alphanumeric characters identifies a function. When the bar code is scanned, a function is triggered by the defined mask.
