Configuring Tracing ToolsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Outlines configuration settings for the tracing tools, Performance Trace and Payload Trace.

Context

The support utilities for SAP Gateway include Performance Trace and Payload Trace tools. The Performance Trace tool enables you to monitor system performance at service call level for backend and hub systems. The Payload Trace tool enables you to monitor data sent and received and replay service calls. Before you can use these tools, you need to make general configuration settings and activate the tools as they are required.

Configuration and Activation
To launch the tracing tools for SAP Gateway and configure these tools as required, proceed as follows:
  1. In transaction SPRO open the SAP Reference IMG and navigate to Start of the navigation path SAP NetWeaver Next navigation step SAP Gateway Next navigation step OData Channel Next navigation step Administration Next navigation step Support Utilities Next navigation step Traces End of the navigation path (transaction /IWFND/TRACES). The SAP Gateway: Tracing Tools screen is displayed where you can configure the settings that are valid for both the Performance Trace and Payload Trace tools. You can configure the tools to run according to user name or request URI prefix.

Settings that have been used previously are displayed in the hierarchy on the left of the screen under Users & Request URI Prefix. If you want to run the tools for previously-specified users or request URI prefixes, simply double-click the relevant list entry from the tree. The user name or request URI prefix is then entered in the configuration settings.

  2. To add a new user or URI prefix, choose the Add User or URI Prefix icon or press F6.
  3. On the Configuration tab, enter the user name or request URI prefix. Input help is available for the User Name input field.
Note If you want to configure the tracing tools for all OData service calls, enter the URI prefix /sap/opu).

If you want to measure performance, it is recommended not to activate the payload trace at the same time as this will impact the performance measurements.

To activate the tracing tools in the Available Logs and Traces section, proceed as follows:

Procedure

  1. Select the checkbox next to the Performance Trace field and/or Payload Trace field.
  2. When the trace tools have been activated as described, the current date and scheduled end time are displayed in the Active trace is valid until field. As standard, the active trace runs for two hours.
