SubobjectsLocate this document in the navigation structure

You can create subobjects within a number range object. To do this, you define the data element of a field of the table for which the number range numbers are to be used as a Data Element for Subobjects. A separate subobject is then provided for each element of this table field.

Each separate subobject represents an object with a complete number set, that is, the total number of available numbers is multiplied by the number of subobjects. The number range object itself becomes a formative shell and does not have its own number set beyond the subobjects.

Example A number range object for recording vehicles in the table VEHICLES contains the numbers 0001 to 9999. Vehicles in the cities Hamburg and Heidelberg are to be recorded. The data element of the table field City of the table VEHICLES is defined as Data Element for Subobjects. There are two values for this field: The value HH for Hamburg and the value HD for Heidelberg. This makes it possible to assign the number HD1234 and the number HH1234.
Intervals of Subobjects

The interval structure of subobjects is defined separately for each individual object. In this way, intervals with the same number but from different subobjects can have different-sized character ranges (see also Intervals).
