Setting Up Embedded SearchLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

Once you have completed the installation of usage type AS ABAP and the search and database technologies corresponding to the selected variant (TREX/BWA or SAP HANA), you have to perform several configuration steps to implement Embedded Search.

Note

If you want to run both Embedded Search and Operational Data Provisioning at the same time, you need to use SAP Business Warehouse Accelerator (BWA).

Note that some new functions in Embedded Search require SAP Business Warehouse Accelerator (BWA) or SAP HANA.

To run Embedded Search with the existing scope of functions, you can continue to use Search and Classification (TREX).

Note the sizing guidelines for Embedded Search. For more information, see SAP Note 1266024 Information published on SAP site.

Prerequisites

Depending on the Embedded Search variant that you have selected, you have installed one of the following technologies in addition to AS ABAP:

  • For the SAP HANA-based variant: SAP HANA
  • For the TREX/BWA-based variant: Search and Classification (TREX) or SAP Business Warehouse Accelerator (BWA)

If you are using SAP Business Warehouse Accelerator (BWA), you must perform the configuration steps described in SAP Note 1647185 Information published on SAP site. For Search and Classification (TREX), see SAP Note 1249465 Information published on SAP site.

You have the administrator role SAP_ESH_LOCAL_ADMIN.

Procedure

Before you can use Embedded Search, you must work through the following manual configuration steps once only in the IMG.

Note

Instead of performing the manual steps, you can also automate the setup by using ABAP Task Manager (transaction STC01). The task list SAP_ESH_INITIAL_SETUP_000_CLIENT is available for the initial setup of Embedded Search in client 000.

More information: Automatic Configuration Using Task Manager Task Lists

  1. Configure the general settings, which are required to use operational analytics as well as Embedded Search. You can find the setting listed below in the IMG below the Search und Operational Analytics node, in the Common Settings for Operational Analytics and Embedded Search section.

    1. Assign the role SAP_ESH_LOCAL_ADMIN to the administrator. This role contains the authorizations required to configure and manage Embedded Search and operational data provisioning.

    2. Activate the required UI services.

      More information: Activating UI Services

    3. Configure the settings for TREX/BWA or SAP HANA and indexing.

      1. Create the connection between the ABAP system and TREX/BWA or SAP HANA.

More information: Creating a Connection Between Embedded Search and SAP HANA or TREX/BWA

      2. Optional: Define the server group for indexing jobs.

For more information, see the IMG.

      3. Optional: Specify the user to be used for the indexing tasks in real time.

For more information, see the IMG.

  2. Configure search-specific settings. You can find these in the IMG below the Search and Operational Analytics node, in the Embedded Search section.

    • Define the sequence of replacement languages for the presentation of items

    • Define parameters for federated searching

    • Set up the recording of details of search queries and searches

    • Activate the display of a list of suggested search terms on the Search UI

    • Set the relevance ranking

For more information, see the associated help texts in the IMG.

  3. If you want to use Embedded Search not only to browse your local Business Suite system, but also to connect to and browse other Business Suite or ABAP systems in which Embedded Search is used, establish the connection to these other back-end systems.

More information: Optional: Establishing Connection to Back-End Systems

  4. If you are using Embedded Search in the SAP HANA-based variant and want to access files that are stored on external servers, you can use the file loader.

More information: Optional: Configuring the File Loader to Search for External Files

After Configuration

Once you have completed all configuration steps, you can create connectors for the search and trigger their indexing.
