Changing Profile FilesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

Profile files are identical in the file directory at operating system level and in the database. Note: Importing Profile Files After Installation

Context

During an initial installation of an SAP system, an upgrade to a new SAP release, or the addition of a new application server instance, the system automatically generates or updates the profile files at operating system level. These profile files must be manually imported to the database. If there is already a version in the database, this can be edited in profile maintenance (transaction RZ10).

Procedure

  1. Make the changes you want in the profile file: Changing and Activating Profile Parameters
Changes are made in the database. You can change profile parameters dynamically too. In that case, the steps described here are not necessary: Changing Profile Parameters Dynamically
  2. Check the profile file for errors or inconsistencies: Checking Profile Files
The system displays the result of the check in a log, which can contain warnings or error messages.
  3. Make the changes in the profile file: Start of the navigation path Profile  Next navigation step Save End of the navigation path.
Changes are saved in the database. A new version for the profile file is created automatically. The old version of the profile file is not overwritten.
  4. Activate the profile file: Enter a profile name in the Profile input field, and choose Start of the navigation path Profile Next navigation step Activate End of the navigation path.
This writes the profile file from the database to the file system of the operating system. The new version for the profile file is saved automatically. The old version of the profile file is not overwritten, unless you specify this explicitly in transaction RZ10.

Results

You have created a new version of the profile file and saved it in the database and in the file system of the operating system.
