Importing Profile Files After InstallationLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

You have used SAPINST to set up a new SAP system or a new application server instance.

Context

During an initial installation of an SAP system, an upgrade to a new SAP release, or the addition of a new application server instance, the system automatically generates or updates the profile files at operating system level. The installation program does not save profile files directly in the database.

Since the profile maintenance (transaction RZ10) works with profile data from the database, you have to manually import the profile files from the file directory of the operating system into the database.

Procedure

  1. Back up all profile files in the profile directory at operating system level.
    This ensures that any erroneous changes made to profile files can be undone if necessary.
  2. Import the profile file(s):
    With this step you import data from the file system to the database.
  3. Check the profile file(s) for errors or inconsistencies: Checking Profile Files
    The system displays the result of the check in a log, which can contain warnings or error messages.

Results

The profile files are now in the file directory at operating system level and in the database of your SAP system.
