Deleting Database Disk Backups with BR*ToolsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

Make sure that you have set the necessary BRBACKUP parameters in the initialization profile init<DBSID>.sap, because BRTOOLS uses these when it calls BRBACKUP.

Context

You can use BR*Tools for Oracle to delete database disk backups. BRBACKUP performs the deletion.

Caution

Make sure that you copy disk backup files to another storage medium, such as tape, before you delete them with this procedure.

Procedure


  1. Start BRGUI or BRTOOLS.

  2. Choose Start of the navigation path Backup and database copy Next navigation step Additional functions Next navigation step Deletion of database disk backups End of the navigation path.

  3. Select the BRBACKUP backup that you want to delete.

  4. Set the required options:

    BRBACKUP backup run (backup)

    -b|-backup

    Files for delete (mode)

    -m|-mode

    Confirmation mode (confirm)

    Query mode (query)

    -q|-query

    Additional output (output)

    -o|-output

    Message language (language)

    -l|-language

    BRBACKUP command line (command)

    This shows you the BRBACKUP -db command that is to be executed using the current settings.

  5. To start processing with the selected options, choose Continue.

  6. You check the results in the BRBACKUP logs.

    • The summary log back<DBSID>.log displays the return code.

    • The detail log b<encoded timestamp>.ddb displays progress.
