Translating Objects via a WorklistLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

After you have called up a worklist, you can access the objects that it contains to translate them. You can translate the objects in your worklist individually by double-clicking them, or you can use the Sequentially Process Objects function.

The worklist screen contains more functions, which are described below.

Prerequisites
Procedure

Calling up Objects for Translation

  1. Place the cursor on the top node in your worklist and choose Expand, so that you can see the individual objects.

  2. You can edit the objects in your worklist in the following ways:

    • You can double-click an individual object to access it, and then return to the worklist after translating the object so that you can open the next object by double-clicking it too.

    • You can process the objects sequentially, without returning to the worklist after translating an object. Your worklist settings determine how the system opens objects one after the other for translation.

Place your cursor on the first object underneath a specific node and choose Sequentially Process Objects. After you have translated an object, you can access the next object to be translated by choosing Next Object or Start of the navigation path Translation Next navigation step Next Object End of the navigation path. You can return to the previous object by choosing Previous Object or Start of the navigation path Translation Next navigation step Previous Object End of the navigation path.

When you have finished editing all of the objects under the node, the system returns to the worklist screen.

      Note

If you want to process all of the objects in your worklist sequentially, place the cursor on the top node and choose Sequentially Process Objects.

  3. The system branches directly to the short text editor or long text editor, depending on the object type of the object. Translate the object and then save.

More Functions in the Worklist Screen

  • Text Search

You can perform a text search in all of the short text objects in your worklist, for example to correct translations. For more information, see Performing Generic Text Searches.

  • Extend Worklist

To add more objects to your existing worklist, choose Extend Worklist or Start of the navigation path Translation Next navigation step Extend Worklist End of the navigation path. This takes you to the Create Worklist screen, where you can maintain the parameters for calling up objects on the Standard Worklist tab page. You can restrict your selection to specific collections, domains, or object types in the usual way. Further information about the parameters for calling up worklists is available under Calling Up a Worklist.

When you choose Reserve Objects, the system takes you back to your worklist which has been extended by the objects you just selected.

If you maintained the parameters in such a way that the system could not add any more objects to your worklist, the message No objects selected appears in a popup. To return to your existing worklist, close the popup and choose Cancel.

  • Sort Worklist

Your worklist is initially sorted according to your worklist settings. To sort the objects in your worklist according to more criteria, choose Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Sort Worklist End of the navigation path. This setting is retained even if you log off the system, log on again, and then call up the worklist again.

  • Refresh Status

You can update the translation status that is displayed for objects in your worklist. To do so, place the cursor on the object (or on the node to which several objects are assigned) and choose Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Refresh Status End of the navigation path.

  • Flag Raw Versions

To see the long text objects in your worklist for which a raw version exists, place your cursor on the node for the collection or object group in question (depending on how your worklist is sorted), and choose Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Flag Raw Versions End of the navigation path. The system displays * next to the long text objects for which a raw version has been created.

  • Display Technical Information

To display technical information for an object, place your cursor on the object and choose Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Technical Information End of the navigation path.

  • Preview

To display objects in the worklist the way the end users will see them, place your cursor on an object and choose Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Preview End of the navigation path. The system displays two dialog boxes in which you double-click the source and target languages in which you want the object to be displayed.

  • Unicode Text Length Check

This function is only relevant for you if you translate short text objects into a multibyte language, such as Japanese, Korean or Chinese, in a Unicode system. If you choose Unicode Text Length Check or Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Unicode Text Length Check End of the navigation path, the system highlights the short text objects whose translations exceed the permitted length. You can also use this function in the short text editor for the object you have just opened. For more information on this function, see Unicode Text Length Check.

  • Creating Session-Bound Top Texts

Session-bound top texts are lists of source texts in your worklist that are sorted according to how frequently they occur in your worklist. They only contain short texts and are displayed in your worklist as demonstration objects. By choosing Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Generate Top Texts End of the navigation path, you can generate session-bound top texts for all of the source texts in your worklist.

For more information on session-bound top texts, see Generating Session-Bound Top Texts.
