Use

In Web applications with the Analysis, Single Document, and Document List Web items, you can use documents to add comments to and enhance structured business data that you provide, for example, in a table, with unstructured information such as texts, diagrams, and graphics. You provide this information in the form of documents. You can create and display documents for all document classes.

Prerequisites
  • Your administrator has assigned you the authorizations for displaying and editing documents.
  • In characteristic maintenance, your administrator has selected the Characteristic Is Document Property indicator for the characteristics whose values are to be assigned to the documents.
  • While configuring the BI system, your administrator has made the settings for the documents in the portal.

Creating, Editing, and Displaying Documents in the Analysis Web Item

Using the Analysis Web item, you can create, edit, and display context-sensitive documents for the data used in a Web application. You can also display document links to the content of the cells of a report. In this Web item, you use the document browser for working with documents. You can reach the document browser in the following ways:

  • Using the Documents context menu for the cell
  • Using the Document icon
    Note  The Document icon is only displayed if you have selected the relevant parameter for displaying the corresponding document class in the Web Application Designer. It is displayed for those cells to which documents are assigned.

Using the document browser you can display documents, create a new text document, insert new formatted text, or upload an existing document. Choose the context menu option Create New Formatted Text to display formatting options. Using the column display, you can display the Name, Content, Assignment, and Authorcolumns. To do this, choose Display in the Web application and set the indicator for the columns you want to show.

Creating, Editing, and Displaying Documents in the Single Document Web Item

Using the Single Document Web item, you can create, edit, and call documents of all formats in a Web application and display properties of documents. In this Web item, there are various functions for working with documents:

  • Using the Details dialog box, you can display documents of any document type as well as corresponding properties, such as Last Changed By. You can edit documents online or locally.
  • Using the Edit Online function, you can create and edit text documents directly online without using a dialog box.
  • In edit mode, you can create and edit text documents directly in the Web item. You can add, display and directly edit documents from the Document List and Analysis Web items using drag and drop.
    Note  To be able to work with text documents in edit mode, you must first of all select the corresponding Web item parameters in the Web Application Designer.

Using the Document List Web item, you can create, edit, or display context-sensitive documents for the data used in the Web application. In this Web item, you have the following options for working with documents:

  • Using the Detailsdialog box, you can display documents and edit them either online or locally.
  • The document browser provides the functions for editing documents and displaying columns here.
