Profile MaintenanceLocate this document in the navigation structure

During an initial installation of an SAP system, an upgrade to a new SAP release, or the addition of a new application server instance, the system automatically generates or updates the profile files at operating system level. The installation program does not save profile files directly in the database. These profiles must be manually imported into the database.

Changes are made to profiles at database level using transaction RZ10 (edit profiles). To save these changes at operating system level too, they must be activated.

Valid profile parameter values depend on the metadata of a profile parameter. The SAP system performs an automatic check on the changes.

Profile parameter values can be changed staticallly in profile files in transaction RZ10 (edit profiles), and also dynamically in transaction RZ11 (maintain profile parameters). Make a note whether the profile parameter is static or dynamic. You can find this information in the metadata for a profile parameter in transaction RZ11 (maintain profile parameters).

Each change to a profile results in a new profile version. These profile versions can be compared with each other, activated again, or deleted.

Profile parameter values in profiles can consist of arithmetical formulas too. All formula parameters of an application server instance can be displayed in transaction RZ11 (maintain profile parameters). Here you can display a list of formula parameters that were manually overwritten in the default profile or in the instance profile. You can also compare the formula values of the kernel profile with the overwritten values.

Caution To use transaction RZ10 (edit profiles), you have to assign authorization values to authorization object S_RZL_ADM in accordance with the desired processing mode:
Processing Mode Value of 'Activity' Field of the S_RZL_ADM Object
Edit and display profiles 01, 03
