A dialog work item is displayed to all of its recipients in the Business Workplace if it has the status ready. When one of the recipients assumes, executes or edits the work item with one of the other functions, all other users can no longer edit it. This actual agent does not have to execute the work item, but rather can also forward it or partly edit it and replace it again. After it has been replaced, the work item is available to all initial recipients again.
Dialog work items are generated by the workflow system in the following cases:
If the following types are to be executed in a workflow step:
Activity (in case the referenced task requires a dialog with the user)
User Decisions
Document from a Template
Form Steps
If a task that requires a dialog with the user is started as a single step
These tasks can either be started directly or with a triggering event.
A dialog work item can be displayed and executed from the Business Workplace. You can also enter attachments for dialog work items or send a mail to the work item.
A dialog work item can also be identified with the type code W in the technical information on the workflow.
A dialog work item with the Ready status can be seen by all recipients. For more information, see Status of a Dialog Work Item and Status Transitions of a Dialog Work Item.
