With the SAP Database Monitor for SQL Server, you can display the important parameters and performance indicators in SQL Server, such as database size, database buffer quality, and database configuration.
You can access this screen in the DBA Cockpit using transaction DBACOCKPIT and navigating to
.The entrance screen is divided in the sub screens Overview and Current activity. If yellow or red, alerts are reported, and a third sub screen named Alerts appears. If alerts are reported, select the alert and choose Analyze to see more details. You can switch between the sub screens using the corresponding tab-riders. The Overview sub screen contains static information although the values may change and therefore can be refreshed with the Refresh button.
The Current activity sub screen contains rather dynamic information. These values represent a floating average of the last 20 minutes (this is the default interval size that should not be changed).
The following functions let you see changes that occur in a short space of time:
Function | Meaning |
---|---|
Refresh (Overview sub screen) |
If you press Refresh on the Overview sub screen the values of the counters are updated. The values of the Overview sub screen reflect rather static information, which does not dramatically change if you press Refresh. Some of the information, for example release information, does not change at all when pressing Refresh. |
Refresh (Current activity sub screen) |
Pressing this button updates the counter values. But these counter values rather represent dynamic values compared to the Overview sub screen values. Pressing this button refreshes the values to the latest floating average values (the floating average interval is 20 minutes as a default). |
Reset (Current activity sub screen) |
Temporarily sets the counter displays to zero. |
Since Reset (Current activity sub screen) |
Displays the delta counter values since you reset the display. You do not see the Since Reset button until you have pressed Reset. |
In the menu DB Analysis of the Current activity sub screen you can also display the values since the database was started ( ). The values are also displayed on a per-second basis. However, keep in mind that values since startup do not really reflect the current situation on your database server.
The information on the Overview sub screen of
is divided into the following sections:The top section of the Overview sub screen displays information about the database version and hardware. The DB startup field shows the date and time when SQL Server was started. You also see the number of connections to the SQL Server instance and the number of connections to the current database.
CPUs available for SQL Server is particularly important, as it shows the number of CPUs installed in the computer, and the number of CPUs used by SQL Server. The CPUs that are available for SQL Server, are determined in the SQL Server configuration. See also the SQL Server option affinity mask.
The remainder of the screen is divided into the following sections:
Function | Meaning |
---|---|
Memory |
Overview of memory configuration and performance. |
Disk Space Usage |
Shows disk space availability for the SAP database. |
