Translating Segmented ObjectsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Context

To protect system performance when large objects, such as tables, are called up for translation, they are segmented. You maintain the segmentation settings in the short text editor settings. When a segmented object is called up for translation, you can also determine the extent to which the system evaluates the segments to find lines with modified translation status.

Procedure

  1. Call up a short text object for translation directly or via your worklist. Segmentation starts automatically in accordance with the segment size that you entered in your segmentation settings.

If you selected the Display Modified Lines in Segments checkbox in your segmentation settings, the Evaluate Segmented Object dialog box appears. This dialog box enables you to choose between a restricted and complete evaluation.

    • If you choose Restricted, the system only displays the number of modified lines for the first segment that contains modified lines. You see the number of new lines in all segments.

    • If you choose Complete, the system displays the number of modified lines for all segments. This places a heavy load on system resources. You see the number of new lines in all segments.

If you deselected the Display Modified Lines in Segments checkbox in your segmentation settings, a dialog box informs you that only new lines are evaluated in the segmented object.

  2. The Object Split Into Segments dialog box appears, listing all of the segments.

The segments that contain new lines are flagged with the letter N. Segments that contain modified lines are flagged with the letter M.

    Note

The number of modified lines can only be displayed when an object is first segmented. If you want to translate an object that has modified lines in lots of different segments, you are advised to print out the list of segments before you start translating the first segment.

  3. To call up a segment in the short text editor, double-click it.
  4. To go from the short text editor back to the Object Split Into Segments dialog box, choose Back.
