Use

We recommend using the following detailed procedure to enable third-party applications to execute queries using OLE DB for OLAP Providers.

Prerequisites

You have installed the required SAP NetWeaver BW front end components on your desktop PC. More information:Installing SAP NetWeaver BW OLE DB for OLAP.

Procedure
  1. Define a query in BEx Query Designer. More information:BEx Query Designer.
  2. Select the characteristic dimension and drag it to either the rows area or columns area. This dimension is modeled to the QUERY_CUBE dimensions in the OLE DB for OLAP interface (seeMapping the Metadata).
  3. Define a structure with the required key figures. Take over the key figures from the InfoProvider to this structure. The name of the structure and its content are modeled to the MEASURES dimensionin the OLE DB for OLAP interface (seeMapping the Metadata).
  4. Release the BEx queries so that they can be used in OLE DB for OLAP Providers. In the Query Properties dialog box, set the Allow External AccesstoThis Query flag. More information:Query Properties (on the Specific tab page).
  5. Save the query. Note: The name of the BEx Query appears in the form InfoCube-Name/Query-Name in the client application.
  6. The client application prompts you to log on to the BW server. Enter a system name, your user name, password and logon language. More information:Installing SAP NetWeaver BW OLE DB for OLAP. (For test purposes, you can also execute the query in BEx).
Result

The QUERY_CUBE you have created now appears in the list of Cubes offered by your client application. You can base your front end display on this.
