In the hierarchy processing, a range of functions for displaying and processing hierarchies and their attributes is available.
Hierarchy properties, which are valid for all hierarchies for a hierarchy basic characteristic, cannot be changed here (seeHierarchy Properties).
You can select the following functions from two toolbars in the hierarchy maintenance. The upper application toolbar has available functions that concern the entire hierarchy. The lower application toolbar mainly offers functions for node maintenance:
Functions for the entire hierarchy
Function | What You Need to Know |
---|---|
Header Data |
The dialog box Display Hierarchy Header or Change Hierarchy Header appears. They contain additional information about technical properties for your hierarchy:
|
Display <-> Change |
You can switch between the display and change mode. This affects other functions. |
Hierarchy Consistency Check |
The system checks the technical correctness of the hierarchy structure: Technical correctness of individual nodes, for example:

Activating Hierarchies |
SeeEditing Hierarchies (Processing Functions table). |
Functions for displaying and processing the hierarchy in a BEx query
Function | What you need to know |
---|---|
Level Maintenance |
You can specify free texts for hierarchy levels that are displayed in the BEx query context menu (seeLevel Maintenance). |
Hierarchy Attributes |
You can make specifications for the display and processing of hierarchies in reporting (seeHierarchy Attributes). |
Modes for adding hierarchy nodes
Function | What You Need to Know |
---|---|
Add as First Child |
The source node is added directly under the target node as the first child. |
Add as First Neighbor |
The source node is added next to the target node on the same level. |
The Drag&Drop relationship is also controlled with these insertion modes. If you want to hang several nodes at the same time with Drag&Drop, choose the insertion mode you want, highlight the hierarchy nodes (if necessary, by pressing theCtrl button), and drag the selected hierarchy nodes with Drag&Drop to the place you want.
Displaying inactive/active versions
Function | What You Need to Know |
---|---|
Display Inactive Version |
|
Display Active Version |
In Display Mode, you can switch between the active and modified version of a hierarchy. If there is only one version, or if you are in the Change Mode, this function is inactive.
Jumping to other maintenance transactions
Function | What You Need to Know |
---|---|
Edit Master Data |
You arrive at the master data maintenance for the hierarchy basic characteristic. There you can create new data, for example, that you can subsequently add to the hierarchy. |
Edit InfoObjects |
InfoObject maintenance for the hierarchy basic characteristic appears, directly on the Hierarchy tab page. |
Monitor |
The monitor for the Data Warehousing Workbench appears, directly at the last request loaded. |
Functions for editing hierarchy nodes
Function | What You Need to Know |
---|---|
Detail |
The dialog box Display Node or Change Node appears. This provides detailed information about a node. |
Create and Delete Node |
These functions are only available in Change Mode. |
Text Nodes |
See Text Nodes in the Postability of Nodes table underHierarchy Nodes. |
Characteristic Nodes |
See External Characteristic Nodes in the Postability of Nodes table underHierarchy Nodes. |
<Hierarchy basic characteristic node> |
See Postable Nodes in the Postability of Nodes table underHierarchy Nodes. |
Intervals |
See Interval in the Special Hierarchy Nodes table underHierarchy Nodes. For more information, see Intervals |
Delete Nodes |
You can delete both individual as well as several nodes. To delete several nodes at the same time, select these (if necessary, by pressing the Ctrl button). The system deletes those nodes and that part of the subtree. |

---|---|
Drill Down Subtree |
The subtree under the selected node is expanded. |
Collapse Subtree |
The subtree under the selected node is compressed. |

Display Technical IDs |
The following columns are displayed as standard:
In addition, the following columns are displayed:
|
Goto Node ID |
The dialog box Selection of Node with Node ID appears. Specify the node ID for the node to which you want to go. The corresponding node is selected in the tree. |
