Basic Operations with Screen ElementsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

Operations like selecting, moving, deleting, copying and so on are common to all screen elements in the Screen Painter. You can use this function as a reference for performing basic operations with screen elements.

Note

Selecting, moving, and deleting elements is different if you are using the layout editor in alphanumeric mode .

Features

Selecting Screen Elements

Do one of the following:

  • To select one element, click anywhere on the element.
  • To select adjacent elements, click at any point outside an element, and drag a rectangle over the elements that you want to select.
  • To select non-adjacent elements, hold down the CTRL key and click on each element that you want to select.
    Note

Use the arrow keys to select individual elements one by one.

Deleting Screen Elements

To delete a screen element, select it and choose Edit → Delete.

Note

When you delete a table control or a tabstrip control, all of its elements are also deleted. Deleting a group box deletes only the box, not its contents.

Moving Screen Elements

Do one of the following:

  • To move one element, select it and drag it to a new position.
  • To move several elements, select them and use the move the  handle to drag them to a new position.
    Note

Elements cannot overlap. Elements in a group box behave like grouped elements.

Resizing Screen Elements

  1. Select the element that you want to resize.

The mouse cursor changes shape if the object can be resized.

  2. Drag the sizing handles until the control is the size you want.
    Note

You can also resize the screen by selecting and dragging the screen border. Alternatively, you can change the number of rows and columns in the element attributes.

Repeat and Undo Actions

You can always undo or repeat your last action, even if you deleted an element, by using the undo and redo functions.

  • You can undo the last action you took by choosing the Undo pushbutton on the standard toolbar.
  • If you later decide you did not want to undo an action, click the Redo pushbutton on the standard toolbar.

Cut, Copy, and Paste

You can cut, copy, and paste screen elements by using the corresponding functions from the Edit menu or from the standard toolbar.
