Setting Up Database ConnectionsLocate this document in the navigation structure

To read data from a remote database, DBA Cockpit needs a connection to that database. The sections that follow describe how to create and configure remote database connections in DBA Cockpit.

Note After a SAP ABAP stack has been installed, a connection to the local database is automatically set up in DBA Cockpit. The local database can be monitored and administered without any additional configuration steps.

To set up a connection to a remote database, the following general steps are required:

Table 1: Setting Up a Database Connection

Purpose

Connection

Step 1

To read data from a remote database, and to execute SQL queries on a database (or SAP HANA liveCache)

DBA Cockpit requires a database connection.

More information: Add a Database Connection in Related Information

Step 2

To monitor and administer a remote database in DBA Cockpit

DBA Cockpit requires:

  • A database connection

More information: Add a Database Connection in Related Information

  • A DBA Cockpit configuration for the database connection

More information: Creating DBA Cockpit Configurations for Remote Monitoring in Related Information

Some application scenarios require only a database connection (Step 1), but do not require the connection to be configured for DBA Cockpit (Step 2).

Example

If you have developed an application that reads data from an external database, you only need a database connection (Step 1); a configuration for DBA Cockpit is not required. You would only need a configuration for DBA Cockpit (Step 2) if you also wanted to use DBA Cockpit to monitor and administer this database.

Example

The liveCache-specific connections LCA, LDA, and LEA only require a database connection (Step 1).
