SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator Index

A SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator index is a redundant data store of a BW object in the BW Accelerator server.

Use

SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator provides quick access to any data in the BW object with low administration effort, and is especially useful for sophisticated scenarios with unpredictable query types, high volumes of data and a high frequency of queries.

Structure

SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator Index

A SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator index contains all data belonging to a BW object in compressed - but not aggregated - form. The data in the SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator index therefore has the same granularity as the BW object.

It consists of several (possibly distributed) indexes that correspond to the tables in the BW object, together with a "logical" index which, depending on the definition of the star schema, contains the metadata from the SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator index.

SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator Server

The SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator server is a TREX system as an installation of a SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator Engine. The data from the BW object is kept and processed entirely in the main memory of the BW accelerator server.

The SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator Engine is the part of the analytic manager that manages the SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator index. This software allows the system to read data from, add data to or change data in the SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator index. SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator Optimizer is the part of SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator Engine that ensures the best possible read access to a SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator index. Maintenance Processes for SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator Indexes

Like relational aggregates, a SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator index is a redundant downstream data source that is used to improve query performance. Hierarchy and change run processes and processes for rolling up data are therefore derived from aggregate maintenance.
