Query MonitorLocate this document in the navigation structure

The query monitor tests, checks, and manages BEx queries. You use the query monitor to test or regenerate queries and query views, and to check or change query properties.

With the query monitor you have the option of displaying technical information about queries. The query monitor also allows you to call the cache monitor.

As previous technical knowledge is presumed, the query monitor is a transaction for administrators.

Implementation Considerations

You can use this component from the BW system without a front end. You need to have already defined the BEx queries that you want to use in BEx Query Designer.

To call the Query Monitor from the Business Explorer SAP Easy Access screen, choose BEx Monitor → Query Monitor (transaction RSRT2 or RSRT).

  1. Enter the technical name of the BEx query that you want to use. Input help is provided for searching in History, InfoAreas, Roles, and Favorites.
  2. Select an option to display the query.
  3. The following functions are available in the query monitor toolbar:
    Pushbutton Function

Execute the query or query view

A screen appears with the query display in an HTML control. You can test the functions - albeit with limited display functions - as you would on the Web.

In the upper part of the entry screen, the URL is displayed with the complete parameterization.

You can use the corresponding pushbuttons to set bookmarks.

    Generate Report

Regenerates the query code. The code is stored as a generated report.

When the code for a query is regenerated, the agreement with the query definition is also always given at the same time.

The Query Properties dialog box appears.

    More information: Query Properties

The Suppress Messages dialog box appears.

On this screen, you can define which messages for the chosen query not to display to users in the front end.

In the left-hand screen area, you can choose the message category, for example Generating, Hierarchy, Variables, Key Figures, Calculate As. In the right-hand screen area, you see messages that you can choose not to display. By double-clicking on the message short text, you can view the corresponding long text in the screen area below.

Put a checkmark in the boxes next to the messages that you want to suppress, and go back. The system saves your entries automatically.

    Generation Log

The Analyze Application Log screen appears. If the generation log option has been activated for the query (see Query Properties) you can display the corresponding generation log after generating the query.

  4. You can select the following functions by pressing the corresponding pushbuttons:
    Pushbutton Function

    Performance Info

The Performance Info screen appears. The system displays all performance-relevant information for the query which does not adhere to the system recommendations (). The information refers to the following areas:

    Query definition:

    • Query cannot use aggregates (corresponds to specifications in Technical Information under OLAP-Relevant Data)
    • Read mode X or A (see Read Mode)
    • Query cannot use the cache (corresponds to specifications in Technical Information under OLAP-relevant Data)
    • Query uses customer exits
    • There are non-cumulative values with AVI (corresponds to specifications in Technical Information under Non-cumulative Flags)

    • InfoProvider is a MultiProvider
    • Database statistics need to be checked
    • Database indexes need to be checked

    Technical Info

    The Technical Information screen appears.

    More information: Technical Information.

    Cache Monitor

    The Cache Monitor screen appears.

    More information: OLAP Cache Monitor.

    Query Variants

If the query contains variables that are ready for entry, the query variants are displayed on the subsequent screen. You can change these or create new variants.

    Test IGS

    Test Internet Graphics Server

With SAP's Internet Graphics Server (IGS), you can create charts and maps in the BW system for Web-based reporting.

The Test IGS is used to check whether the Internet Graphics Server can be accessed. If the system displays a graphic with two sets of three bars, you have a connection. You can use this to analyze performance.

For more information, see the SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence implementation guide (IMG) under Reporting-Relevant Settings → Web-Based Settings → IGS Settings.

The functionality provided by the front end is not supported in every part of the query monitor. On the other hand, there are some settings that you can only make here and not in the front end (see Properties and Query Properties).
