Monitoring the Availability of Web Services with GRMG LiteLocate this document in the navigation structure

Context

If there is a corresponding system in your system landscape, you can use GRMG Lite to monitor the availability of ABAP Web Services and Java Web Services.

Note

More information about ABAP services: Web Services.

Procedure

  1. Start transaction GRMG.
  2. Depending on whether you want to monitor Web services of an ABAP or a Java system, choose either: Start of the navigation path Edit/Delete Next navigation step Create Scenarios for ABAP WS End of the navigation path or Start of the navigation path Edit/Delete Next navigation step Create Scenarios for Java WS End of the navigation path. The configuraiton screen for Web services appears.
  3. To create the availability monitoring, GRMG requires the data for your system landscape. This can be taken from the System Landscape Directory (SLD) or from the CCMS. The system first attempts to take the system landscape information from the SLD. If problems occur when during this attempt, these are displayed on the screen. In this case, choose the switch Read System Landscape from SLD or CCMS or Read System Landscape Only from CCMS; note that the heading for the switch describes the current method of obtaining the information, and not the method to which you want to switch. Then choose the Rebuild System List button.
  4. Select the desired system from the list, for which you want to monitor the Web services, by expanding the system. As a first step, you now determine which Web services exist on this system. To do this, make the following specifications:
    • If the system does not have the required information, enter the required information about the monitored system in the Specify HTTP/S Host and Port.

    • To read all of the system's existing Web services, you require a user with administration authorization. Enter the appropriate user data in the Specify Administrator Logon Data area.

    • Depending on the type of connection from the central monitoring system to the monitored system, it can be necessary to enter additional connection data in the area Specify Proxy Logon Data.

    Choose Continue.

  5. In the lower subscreen, a list of the Web services that exist in the selected system now appears in the Web Services and URLs area. Select the Web service that you want to monitor, and choose the Activate GRMG Heartbeat Monitoring button. To do this, make the following specifications:
    • For the availability monitoring itself, you require a user that can use the desired Web service. Enter the logon data for this user in the area Logon Data for GRMG Heartbeat Logon.

    • Depending on the type of connection from the central monitoring system to the monitored system, it can be necessary to enter additional connection data in the area Logon Data for Proxy Logon, if Required.

  6. The system displays a message that monitoring of the selected service has been activated. The message also shows the name and version of the associated GRMG scenario. Return to transaction GRMG by choosing the Back button.
  7. The scenario that you have just created is shown in the list GRMG Scenarios for Availability Monitoring. To start the availability monitoring, select the scenario, and choose the Start button.
