Monitoring Segments in the Topology DisplayLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

Use this function to obtain an overview of the monitoring segments of an SAP system. A monitoring segment is the memory area in shared memory of an instance that the monitoring architecture uses for all active contexts and collected monitoring attributes. A monitoring segment includes all active components and data.

The topology display shows the most important segment data including its current status.

For more information about how you can start the topology display, see Calling the Technical Topology Display.

Features

By default, the system displays the following columns in the Local Segments (<SID>) or Segments (<SID>) tab pages:

Column Meaning

Segment Name

Name of the monitoring segment with the structure: SAP_CCMS_<Name of the SAP instance> or, for CCMS agents, also: SAP_CCMS_<host name>

Segment Type

The following segment types are possible:

  • Agent
  • Application server

Destination

RFC destination of the monitored segment

Segment Status

Segment status from the point of view of the local system; the following statuses are possible:

ONLINE

OFFLINE

SHUTDOWN

COMM.FAIL

If an RFC call fails (for example, in the case of the Test Connection command), the system displays COMM. FAIL. After a successful RFC call, the system sets the communication status to ONLINE again.

You can also show the following columns by choosing the Change Layout... button for the ALV Grid Control:

Column Meaning

Changed By

Unlike the Monitored, Remote SAP Systems tab page, an automatic user (usually SAPMSSY8) can be displayed as the last changer, since the application server automatically registers with the monitoring architecture during startup.

Status Change (UTC Time)

Time of the last change of the communication status

Counter for Stat. Chg.

Number of changes of the communication status

Segment Server

SAP instance in the shared memory of which the monitoring segment exists

Segment Host

Host in the shared memory of which the monitoring segment exists

Responsible Server

This column is only filled for CCMS agents. Since the CCMS agents originally acted purely as RFC servers, there must be a Responsible Server that controls the agent.

System Comm.Prio Comm.typ Comm.Status Change Date Change Time Version

These columns have identical meanings as those with the same names when Displaying Monitored Systems in the Topology Display.

Activities

In addition to the purely display functions, the following commands are also available to you as buttons in the ALV Grid Control: These commands are only available for local segments.

Command Explanation

 Test Connection

This command performs an RFC call to the selected segment and displays the result.

 Delete Entry

This command deletes the entry for the selected segment. This is useful, for example, to remove inconsistencies or if an application server has been permanently removed. The deletion has no effect on the function of the monitoring architecture - the system automatically renews entries for active monitoring segments.

This command is only available in change mode, which you start by choosing the Display «Change button ().

Reset Segment in "WARMUP" Status.

In change mode, you can use this command to restart the selected segment (see Resetting Segment to WARMUP Status).

Change Segment Status (only in change mode)

If you no longer want to monitor a server, choose OFFLINE. It remains in this status until you set it to ONLINE again. Do not set COMM.FAIL or SHUTDOWN manually.
