Use
Features

In addition to functions for creating, changing, and deleting InfoObjects, additional functions are available in InfoObject maintenance.

Tree Display

You can display all the InfoObject settings made on the InfoObject maintenance tab pages in a clear tree structure.

Version Comparison

You can compare the following InfoObject versions:

  • Active and modified versions of an InfoObject

  • Active and Content versions of an InfoObject

  • Modified and Content versions of an InfoObject

This allows you to compare all the settings made on the InfoObject maintenance tab pages.

Transport Connection

You can select and transport InfoObjects. The system automatically collects all BW objects that are required to ensure a consistent status in the target system.

Where-Used List

You can determine which other objects in the BW system use a specific InfoObject.

You can determine the effect of changing an InfoObject in a particular way and whether this is permitted at a given time.

Analyzing InfoObjects

Choose Start of the navigation path Edit Next navigation step Analyze InfoObject End of the navigation path to access the analysis and repair environment. You use the analysis and repair environment to check the consistency of your InfoObjects.

See Analysis and Repair Environment.

Object Browser Using AWB

In the main menu, choose Start of the navigation path Environment Next navigation step Object Browser via DWB End of the navigation path to call this function and display links between various BW objects.

These include the following:

  • Structural dependencies, such as the InfoObjects that make up an InfoCube

  • Connections between BW objects, such as the data flow from a source system through an InfoCube to a query

You can display and export the listed dependencies in HTML format.

Hyperlinks

In InfoObject maintenance, technical objects (such as data elements or attributes) are often underlined. If this is the case, in the context menu of the InfoObject, you can access a selection of functions such as branching to the detail view (dictionary), table contents, table type, and so on. Double-click to get to the detail display.

Activation in the Background

In some cases, activating an InfoObject can be quite time consuming. This is the case if you are converting a large amount of data for example. The activation process terminates after a specified length of time. In this case, you can use a background job to activate InfoObjects. In InfoObject maintenance, choose Start of the navigation path Characteristic Next navigation step Activate in Background End of the navigation path.
