Where-Used Check for Runtime SystemsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

You have already configured multiple tracks with runtime systems.

Context

You can configure up to four runtime systems in a development track. The assignment to the system roles Development , Consolidation , Test , and Production determines the role of the runtime system. To avoid giving a different system role to a runtime system in another track or tracks, you can use the Where-Used Check function to see whether a runtime system is already being used in another track.

Using runtime systems more than once can cause problems if the same software components are deployed from different systems or tracks. The previous software state is then always overwritten by the new deployment, making it impossible to guarantee the consistency of the software.

Note

This check is made again automatically when you save a track.

Procedure

  1. Choose Where-Used Check . The Where-Used Check dialog box appears.

Here you see where the runtime system is used, together with its system role. Check whether it makes technical sense for the system to be used in more than one track and close the dialog box by choosing Confirm .

    Note

The check also displays where the runtime system is used in the currently selected track.

  2. If the check shows that the multiple usage of the runtime system could cause problems, remove the system from the configuration by deselecting the system role. If you see no problems with the runtime system being used multiple times, continue with the configuration.

Results

You have checked whether a runtime system is being used in more than one track.
