You have various ways of formatting hierarchies in Report Designer. You can only do this if the hierarchies are on the row axis in the drilldown. When you insert a data provider with an active hierarchy, you have the following options:

Row Patterns for Formatting Types
For formatting hierarchies according to hierarchy levels, row patterns are generated for the individual hierarchy levels. For formatting hierarchies according to hierarchy node type, a row pattern is created for the basic characteristic and for each of the external characteristic nodes.
The following row patterns are also generated for both formatting types:
Changing the Formatting Type
Switching the Formatting Type
You can change a formatting type that has already been selected by choosing Format → Insert Row Pattern for Hierarchy Level orInsert Row Pattern for Hierarchy Node Type. The newly generated row patterns are displayed in the field catalogue. You can switch the formatting type by manually deleting the row patterns that were generated for the originally selected formatting type.
Mixtures of the Formatting Types
For mixtures of the two formatting types, you first of all insert the row patterns for the other formatting type by choosing Format → Insert Row Pattern for Hierarchy Level orInsert Row Pattern for Hierarchy Node Type. You can then selectively delete individual row patterns for both formatting types.
In the properties pane, you can change the position of the individual row patterns. The lower the position of the respective row pattern within the group level, the higher its priority.
