Prerequisites

The user has been assigned a role in accordance with the authorization concept.

Context

In the Statistics user menu of the liveCache Assistant, you can find, among other things, displays for the sizes of class containers.

The current table sizes are determined by a report and saved in a database table which forms the history of table sizes and table growth. You can view this data in the Class Container Sizes user menu.

Procedure

  • Determining Statistical Data

If necessary, you will have to determine the size of the class container. You have the following options to do this:

    • Schedule the action update class container statistics weekly in the DBA planning calendar. To schedule the action Update Class Container Statistics, proceed as described in Scheduling an Action.

    • You can update the class container sizes as a one-off. To do this, in the user menu of the liveCache Assistant, choose Start of the navigation path Statistics Next navigation step Class Container Sizes End of the navigation path (in the user menu of the DBA Cockpit: Start of the navigation path Diagnosis Next navigation step Database Objects Next navigation step OMS Class Containers End of the navigation path or for SAP NetWeaver 7.1: Start of the navigation path Space Next navigation step Class Container Sizes End of the navigation path) and choose the function Update Class Container Statistics, to start a background job that updates the sizes.

The class container sizes are determined. The measurement data is logged in the table SDBCCMS.

  • Displaying Class Container Sizes

Once the sizes have been determined, you can display them as follows:

    1. In the user menu, choose liveCache Assistant (transaction LC10).

    2. Enter the name of the database connection.

You can select the name from the list of existing names. You can restrict the search for the required name.

    3. Choose Start of the navigation path liveCache Next navigation step Monitoring End of the navigation path.

    4. Choose Start of the navigation path Statistics Next navigation step Class Container Sizes End of the navigation path.

The display is part of the DBA Cockpit and can therefore also be called as follows:

    1. Open DBA Cockpit (transaction DBACOCKPIT).

    2. The display options in DBA Cockpit vary depending on which SAP NetWeaver release you are using.

      • Choose Start of the navigation path Diagnosis Next navigation step Database Objects Next navigation step OMS Class Containers End of the navigation path.

      • SAP NetWeaver 7.1: Choose Start of the navigation path Space Next navigation step  Class Container Sizes End of the navigation path.

You can choose the following displays, and can also display the information graphically:

    • Class Containers with Greatest Growth: You can set the comparison time period, comparison interval, and the number of class containers displayed.

    • Largest Class Containers: You can set the date and the number of class containers displayed.

    The following functions are available:

    • Toggle Aggregated/Unaggregated View

    • History of a Class: Select the desired class.

    • Delete Statistics Data: You can delete statistics data manually by specifying a time period/date or automatically by specifying a time period (in weeks).

    • Update Class Container Statistics: Note that the class container information is saved only once a day. Any older daily statistics are overwritten.
