Monitoring of Parameters, Availability, Log Files, and Processes

You can use the monitoring functions of CCMS (Computing Center Management System) to monitor Search and Classification (TREX).

There are the following areas for monitoring TREX with CCMS:

• Reporting Parameters and Versions
• Monitoring Availability (Heartbeat/GRMG)
• Monitoring Log Files
• Monitoring Processes

Prerequisites

You have configured CCMS monitoring for TREX so that parameters, availability (heartbeat/GRMG), log files, and processes can be monitored in CCMS:

• Configuring Parameter Reporting
• Configuring Monitoring of Availability (Heartbeat/GRMG)
• Configuring Monitoring of Log Files
• Configuring Monitoring of Processes

Features

• Reporting Parameters and Versions

  You can use reporting for important TREX configuration parameters in a CCMS system. This includes the paths for indexes and the TREX version. Information such as the trace level and queue and index information (such as the size of the hard disk and languages) is available.

• Monitoring Availability (Heartbeat/GRMG)

  You can check the availability of TREX services using a heartbeat with GRMG. A scenario in CCMS covers a single TREX host. If you want to monitor a distributed installation with multiple TREX hosts, each host has its own scenario in CCMS. The system can check the availability of the TREX index server, queue server, preprocessor, name server, and Web server.

  Note

  You can run more than one TREX instance on a TREX host. For each TREX instance, you can use a TREX GRMG server that monitors the availability of the TREX server for this TREX instance.

• Monitoring Log Files

  You can monitor trace and log files using a template. If an error occurs in a log file an alert is displayed in the CCMS system.

• Monitoring Processes

  You can monitor TREX processes that are currently active. This implementation is similar to availability monitoring, where a scenario on a server is checked in various steps.

Activities

For all CCMS monitoring features, you use transactionRZ20:

1. Start transactionRZ20.

   The screen containing the CCMS Monitor Sets appears.

2. Expand the node SAP CCMS Monitors for Optional Components.
3. Double-click the entry TREX.

   A node tree containing the following entries appears:

   • TREX Server Heartbeat (all Releases)
   • TREX (Release <= 6.40)
   • TREX (Release >= 7.0)
4. Choose a TREX release.
   Note

   This is the default path for TREX scenarios. If you have defined your own monitors, follow the relevant path in your system.

   • Reporting Parameters and Versions

     Information about the Operating System, Host Name, CPU, and so on for your TREX system appears.

   • Monitoring Log Files
     1. Navigate to the node TREX Log Files and expand it.

        A list of the available TREX trace files appears.

     2. Choose Open Alerts.

        The open alerts are displayed. Choose an entry for an open alert to display detailed information.

   • Process Monitoring

     Choose the entry TREX Process Monitoring.

     A list of entries for various TREX processes that are monitored by the CCMS monitor appears.

TheTREX Admin Tool (Stand-Alone) also provides a monitoring function for monitoring processes, errors, and alerts. The TREX alert server regularly checks central TREX functions and can notify you by email of the system status in the event of an error or incorrect configuration.
