To be able to manage data with SAP NetWeaver Information Lifecycle Management (SAP NetWeaver ILM), you need to make the preparatory settings in the application system.

Before you start using SAP NetWeaver ILM, check that the archiving scenario you are currently using is controlled by the rules for Archive Routing. When you start to use SAP NetWeaver ILM, the Information Retention Manager rule engine assumes this task. The rules defined in Archive Routing are no longer taken into account. For more information, see Making Customizing Settings for ILM Rules.

Procedure

  1. In the application system, activate the Business Function that enhances the data archiving functions adjust them to the specifics of SAP NetWeaver ILM.

  2. Assign the roles with the relevant authorizations to the users who will be working with SAP NetWeaver ILM and make ILM functions available as a cockpit.

  3. Provide the required ILM stores on a WebDAV server.

  4. Configure the ILM functions.

    1. Familiarize yourself with the technical basics of data retention and with the standard SAP settings. Adjust the settings as necessary.

    2. Make sure you have taken all measures to protect your data.
