Function documentation Maintaining Short Text Editor Settings  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can adapt the short text editor so that it meets your specific requirements by maintaining the settings. SAP advises you not to change the standard settings.

Features

You can maintain the following short text editor settings:

·        View: Display New Texts

If you select this checkbox, the system displays new (red) lines when you access an object for translation in the short text editor.

·        View: Display Modified Texts

If you select this checkbox, the system displays modified (yellow) lines when you access an object for translation in the short text editor.

·        View: Display 100% Text Matches

If you select this checkbox, the system displays translated (green) lines when you access an object for translation in the short text editor.

·        View: Display Proposals

If you select this checkbox, the system displays the best proposals for the source texts in an object when you access it for translation in the short text editor.

·        View: Display Comment for Object

If you select this checkbox, and if a comment has been entered for the entire object, the system displays it in the short text editor above the very first line to be translated.

You are advised to select all five of the above checkboxes to ensure you are provided with as much contextual information as possible during translation.

·        Workflow: Save and Next

If you select this checkbox, you exit the short text editor when you save. During sequential processing, you access the next object in the worklist that needs to be processed.

·        Workflow: Proposal Pool Maintenance Dialog Box

If you select this checkbox, the proposal pool is displayed in a dialog box when you branch to the proposal pool from the short text editor. You can move the proposal pool dialog box around, so that you can still see the contents of the short text editor while maintaining a proposal in the proposal pool.

·        Workflow: Extended Object Selection

Object type shortcuts are used in various places in transaction SE63, such as the menu paths for directly accessing objects. Some object types have been subdivided so that they match the transport objects. For example, Screen Painter texts are represented by object types SRT1 to SRT8. If you do not know which specific object type to use, you can use meta object types to access them instead. For example, the meta object type SCRT enables you to access the Screen Painter objects. If you select this checkbox, the specific object types are displayed in transaction SE63. If you do not select this checkbox, you see the meta object types instead.

·        Segmentation (When Number of Lines > 5 Times Segment Size)

A maximum of 2,500 short text lines can be displayed in the short text editor. If an object contains more lines of source text, the object is segmented. You can only access the source texts for translation by calling up the various segments in the source text editor. This setting enables you to specify the number of source text lines as of which segmentation starts for an object. You can also define the size of the segments.

The value that you enter in the Segment Size field determines the size of a segment. This value also determines the total number of source texts in an object as of which segmentation starts. This is five times the number that you enter as the segment size. Segmentation can only start for objects that contain at least 250 lines of source text. For this reason, the minimum value that you must enter in the Segment Size field is 50. If you enter a lower value, it is automatically increased to 50.

Example

When large objects are segmented in the short text editor, you want each segment to consist of 50 source text lines. You enter 50 in the Segment Size field. As soon as an object contains more than 250 lines of source text, it is segmented. For example, a table that contains 3,000 lines of source text is divided into 60 segments, each of which contains 50 lines of source text. An object containing 249 source text lines, however, is called up without segmentation because it does not exceed the segmentation threshold of 250 source text lines.

If an object is segmented, the system first displays a dialog box that lists all the segments before any source text lines are displayed. In this dialog box, the letter N is displayed in front of segments that contain new source text lines. If you also want to know which segments contain modified lines, select the Complete Evaluation of Segments checkbox. Note that if you activate this complete evaluation, the time it takes for a large object to be accessed increases considerably.

Note

The number of modified lines can only be displayed before you start translating the contents of a specific segment in the short text editor. If you want to translate an object that has modified lines in lots of different segments, you are advised to make a screenshot before you start translating the first segment.

Activities

To enter your short text editor settings, choose Utilities Settings and select the Short Text Editor tab page. You can then enter the settings described above. Otherwise, the standard settings are used instead.
