With this scenario variant, organizations can use the SAP NetWeaver Portal to expose applications, services and information over the Internet to customers, partners and employees.
The SAP NetWeaver portal provides tools and guidelines for implementing an external-facing portal for a variety of business scenarios for both anonymous and registered users. Organizations can create public Web portals that perform well in low-bandwidth networks and offer a familiar Web experience for anonymous users, as well as create Web portals that provide business partners, employees, and other registered users with a Web portal that fully supports SAP application functionality (business applications, KM, etc.).
By implementing an external-facing portal, companies can boost their portal project ROI by using the same platform for the company's Internet and intranet implementations.

IT Processes of the Scenario Variant
Information about implementing an external-facing portal is divided into four main sections. Each section describes a specific Information Technology (IT) process and provides information for administering and managing an aspect of the external-facing portal environment.
The following are the main IT processes when you implement an external-facing portal:

You perform all necessary setup and configuration steps for the external-facing portal. Examples of these tasks include enabling anonymous users, creating light navigation iViews, and assigning light content to anonymous and registered users. |

You can create additional light content that is suitable for an external-facing portal – that is, content that does not consume a lot of resources – and assign it to anonymous and registered users. |

Create quick links to make it easier for users to navigate, and monitor usage of the portal, as required. |

Customers, business partners, and employees can access information, services, and applications in a Web portal. Users can view content, and register to personalize the portal and get access to additional content. |
