User-Defined Message Types Locate this document in the navigation structure

The message type identifies the message as an information message (type I), warning message (type W), or error message (type E). It determines the costing status of the cost estimate. For more information, see Costing Status .

You can select a message type for a whole range of system messages. This enables you to determine how the message is handled by the system and whether it is entered in a log.

If you have indicated a message as a warning, you can either ignore the message by choosing Enter or correct the data entered.

If you have indicated a message as an error message, you must make a correction before you can continue with the cost estimate.

You make these settings in Customizing for Product Cost Planning or Cost Object Controlling .

You can also change the type of message yourself in the application.
