Material Staging (with EWM) Locate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You can carry out the staging of materials for production and process orders in connection with an SAP EWM system. If you use an SAP EWM system to manage your components, the system generates deliveries as replenishment elements.

In the case of material staging with EWM, a stock transfer is generally carried out from an EWM-managed source storage location to an MM-IM- or EWM-managed destination storage location in production. In the process, you can use a one-stepor two-step stock transfer procedure.

You can either trigger the material staging directly in the production order or use the pull list .

Integration

You use an SAP EWM system in conjunction with ERP. See also: Processes in the Area of Production and Process Orders

For more information on the integration of production orders with EWM, follow the menu path   SAP Library   SAP ERP Central Component   Logistics   Logistics Execution (LE)   Integration of Extended Warehouse Management   Integration of Extended Warehouse Management into PP   .

Prerequisites

  • You have activated the business function LOG_PP_EWM_MAN in transaction SFW5.

  • You have made the settings for material staging in Customizing for the Logistics Execution component under   Extended Warehouse Management Integration   Production Planning and Control   in the IMG activity Define Determination of Delivery Types. . You can choose between the following options:

    Material staging processes

    Recommended delivery type

Release order parts with 1-step stock transfer

    HOD or DOG (outbound delivery)

Release order parts with 2-step stock transfer, goods receipt from stock in transit

    HID or DIG (inbound delivery)

Release order parts with 2-step stock transfer, goods issue to stock in transit

    HOD or DOG (outbound delivery)

Pick parts with 1-step stock transfer

    HOD or DOG (outbound delivery)

Pick parts with 2-step stock transfer, goods receipt from stock in transit

    HID or DIG (inbound delivery)

Pick parts with 2-step stock transfer, goods issue to stock in transit

    HOD or DOG (outbound delivery)

  • You have created a production supply area (PSA) and specified the destination storage location for material staging there. This storage location can be MM-IM- or EWM-managed.

  • You have created a control cycle for the PSA with the following settings:

    • Destination

The system automatically determines the storage location and warehouse number for the destination from the production supply area for which you are creating the control cycle.

    • Source

The system automatically specifies the issuing plant. You only need to enter the issuing storage location. The plants of the source and destination storage locations must agree. The source storage location must be EWM-managed.

    • You have set the provision indicator 3 for release order parts or the staging indicator 1 for pick parts .

For the staging of pick and release order parts that are to be staged in an EWM-managed production storage location , you can create a separate control cycle for each production supply area.

For the staging of release order parts staged in an MM-IM-managed production storage location , the following restriction applies:

You can create just one control cycle per material/plant/storage location in each case, because inventory management takes place at storage location level.

Accordingly, you can also create only one control cycle for a selected PSA in the transactions LPK1, LPK2, and LPK3 in this case if there are several PSAs for the same storage location and you want to stage release order parts there.

  • You have specified the production supply area for the relevant component in the BOM (or in the material master or production version).

  • The order for which material is to be staged must be at least partially released (this means that at least one operation must have been released).

Features

Staging of Pick Parts Directly in the Production or Process Order (Transactions CO02 and COR2)

You can trigger the staging of pick parts directly in the production order or process order. If you want to stage the pick parts in an MM-IM-managed production storage location, you must trigger material staging in transaction CO02 or COR2 because in this case you cannot use the material staging (pull) list (MF60). See also: Staging of Pick Parts (Destination Storage Location is EWM-Managed)

You can start material staging in the production order in the following ways:

  • In the production order, choose   Goto   WM Pull List   . The system prompts you through the dialog steps.

  • In the production order, choose   Functions   WM Material Staging   Execute.   The remaining processing steps are carried out in the background.

The system then creates a delivery for each pick part. The delivery is replicated in the EWM system.

Staging of Release Order Parts and Pick Parts Using the Pull List
  • If you have set the EWM Release Order Parts indicator on the initial screen of the pull list, only those release order parts whose source and destination storage locations are EWM-managed are listed on the Release Order Part View screen. You can then create replenishment proposals for these release order parts.

  • If you have set the EWM Pick Parts indicator on the initial screen, only those components whose source and destination storage locations are EWM-managed are listed on the Pick Parts View screen. You can then create replenishment proposals for these pick parts. See also: Staging of Pick Parts

    Note Note

If a pick part is to be staged in a production storage location that is MM-IM-managed, you ust trigger the material staging in transacdtion CO02.

    End of the note.
  • If you have set both indicators on the initial screen, both EWM release order parts and EWM pick parts are listed. You can then create replenishment proposals for both categories.

  • If you want to trigger material staging for a release order part whose source storage location is EWM-managed, and whose destination storage location (production storage location) is MM-IM-managed , you must set the Storage Location Level indicator on the initial screen. In this case, the system selects from the material staging (pull) list according to requirements that must be staged in an MM-IM-managed production storage location (destination storage location). In doing so, the system does not differentiate between requirements originating from an EWM-managed or an MM-IM-managed source storage location.

Table of replenishment elements

The table of replenishment elements shows the two EWM categories of replenishment elements.

  • EWMKOM for pick parts

  • EWMABR for release order parts

The system creates deliveries for both categories in the background. The delivery constitutes the basis for material staging.

Change views

You can change the view in the pull list by choosing   View   Other View   EWM Pick or EWM Release Order   from the menu.

Activities

Process of Staging Materials
  1. After saving, the system generates a delivery for each replenishment element.

  2. The delivery is replicated in the EWM system.

  3. In the EWM system, a transfer posting or outbound delivery is created on the basis of the delivery data.

  4. The stock transfer is then posted in EWM and the components are staged in production at the storage location you stipulated in the control cycle as the destination.

  5. In the ERP system, you can use transaction VL03 Display Delivery or VL06 Delivery Monitor to display the goods movements that have occurred.
