You can use this process to tell the system about the details of your shop floor so that it can track shop floor master data.

Prerequisites

You have set up the system (Setting Up the System).

Process

  1. In Material Maintenance, you create material records for parents and components (see Material and Material Maintenance). If you are planning to use Floor Stock Receipt to receive components, you use the Manufactured/Purchased or Purchased type for them.

  2. In Material Group Maintenance, you assign materials to material groups, if required (see Material Group Maintenance).

  3. In Work Center Maintenance, you define work centers for your shop floor (see Work Center and Work Center Maintenance).

  4. In Resource Type Maintenance, you define resource types (see Resource Type Maintenance).

  5. In Resource Maintenance, you create records to represent the machinery your operators work with or the places where they work (see Resource and Resource Maintenance).

  6. In Operation Maintenance, you create records to represent the actions machines and production operators perform on the shop floor, called operations, and assign a resource type to each operation (see Operation and Operation Maintenance).

  7. In Routing Maintenance, you define routings that reflect the processes on your shop floor (see Routing and Routing Maintenance).

You can also write any necessary scripting for branched routings.

  8. In BOM Maintenance, you create BOMs for parent materials by listing component materials (see Bill of Material (BOM) and Creating BOMs).

  9. In Material Maintenance, you associate BOMs with material records for parents.

  10. In Data Type Definition Maintenance, you define fields for the data to be collected when material is assembled. In Data Field Assignment Maintenance, you group these data fields and associate them with a data type of Assembly category (see Assembly Data Type).

  11. In Material Maintenance, you assign these data types to material to specify what data to collect when assembling the product or maintaining floor stock.

  12. In Work Instruction Maintenance, you define work instruction records that you want to display to operators in the POD (see Work Instruction and Work Instruction Maintenance).

  13. In Data Collection Maintenance, you define a new data collection (DC) group (see Data Collection Group and Data Collection Maintenance).

    Note Note

The Collect Data At field defines when (during the processing of an operation) the Data Collection plug-in is displayed.

For the Data Collection functionality to work properly, the POD must be configured so that the Data Collection (DC500) activity is performed after the Start (PR500) and before the Complete (PR510) activity.

    End of the note.
  14. In Tool Group Maintenance, you assign tools to groups, if required (see Tool Group Maintenance).

  15. In Tool Number Maintenance, you define hand-held and portable equipment used in operations (see Tool Number and Tool Number Maintenance).

  16. In Buyoff Maintenance, you define buyoff records in the system (see Buyoff and Buyoff Maintenance).
