Use

In the process instructions you can define processing steps, which:

  • A process operator to execute manually at a production line

  • A process control system to execute automatically

You define the process instructions in the master recipe and in the process order. You have the following options:

  • Characteristic-Based Process Instructions

In the process instruction overview, you define characteristic-based process instructions. That is, you define the process instructions using characteristics and their characteristic values. In doing so, you create process instructions for a phase.

  • XStep Process Instructions

You define XSteps in the XSteps editor. You define XSteps process instructions in the XSteps. Although XSteps process instructions are also based on characteristics, you can create them without knowledge of the characteristic structure using the context menu. When doing this you create XSteps independent of the phases. You assign the XSteps to a phase by assigning a context.

Prerequisites

Characteristic-Based Process Instructions

Characteristic-based process instructions, which you have assigned to a phase in the master recipe and process order, must be assigned to a particular process instruction category . You must first have created these process instruction categories in Customizing for process management. They serve as a template for the process instruction you use in the master recipe and process order.

Every process instruction category that you create in Customizing must also be assigned to a process instruction type .

Features

When defining process instructions, you must decide whether you want a process operator to process them manually or whether they will be processed automatically by a process control system. Depending on where the process instructions will be processed, you can pass on different pieces of information in them.

  • You define XStep process instructions, which should be processed by the process operator, for the PI sheet.

    See also: PI Sheets

  • You define process instructions for process control systems that are to be processed in the production area automatically.

    Information for PI Sheets

You can define the following information in process instructions that are transferred to the PI sheet:

  • Any type of information that can be displayed in the PI sheet. This includes:

    • Long Text

    • Business contents, such as the material number, batch, and so on

  • The order in which the process steps (phases) are to be processed (only possible with characteristic-based process instructions)

  • Input fields for the input of production-relevant data, which the process operator should enter in the PI sheet.

  • Confirmation of the requested data using one or several process messages

  • Calculation formulas to calculate values

  • Function modules to jump from the PI sheet to other SAP applications

For more information, see:

You can define the following information in process instructions that are transferred to a process control system :

  • Material numbers and material quantities that the process control system needs before production can be started

  • Actual data for material consumption that is sent to the SAP system.

For information on how to structure information in the process instruction for the process control system, see XStep Process Instructions for External Systems .

Activities

When you release the process order, the system automatically performs the following activities:

  • It combines the process instructions to form control recipes .

  • It creates one control recipe for each control recipe destination of a process order.

  • According to your settings for the background job, it transfers the control recipes to the control recipe destinations that need the information to control and regulate the production process.
