You can use this activity to change properties of existing activities and to create new activities from existing ones with different activity rules.

This activity also allows you to do the following:

  • Change activity rules for existing activities

Rules allow you to control how an activity behaves.

When you install the system, each rule of the activity is set to a default value. If this default value meets your needs, you do not need to change it.

  • Assign activities to one or more groups to organize them in the Activity Manager

The following table describes fields requiring explanation:

The activity title

Visible in Activity Manager

Selected: Displays this activity in the Activity Manager

Deselected: Does not display this activity in the Activity Manager

Caution Caution

If the class/program of a new activity is a part of the domain URL, it must comply with the URI syntax rules.

End of the caution.

The category of this activity (see Activity Types)

Several types of activities in the system have rules you can change. You can change these rules on the Rules tab page.

If you are a developer who has written new custom activities, use this activity to add and modify your custom activities.

Users cannot access your activities unless you add them in Activity Maintenance.

Caution Caution

Activities are global to all sites in the database.

End of the caution.

To give users access to various activities, use the User Group Maintenance activity.

Changing Activity Rule Settings

If you want an activity to behave differently for different users, you can create a new activity based on the old one and change the new activity rule settings.

Note Note

If you change the original activity, the change affects all sites of your system installation.

End of the note.

To create a new activity with different rule settings, proceed as follows:

  1. On the initial Activity Maintenance screen, retrieve the original activity record.

  2. Change the value in the Activity field to the name of the new activity.

For example, if you want to change Serialize (PR550), you could name the new activity PR550A.

  3. On the Rules tab page, change the existing rule settings of the retrieved activity as needed.

    Note Note

For information about the exiting rule settings, see the corresponding help topics for activities with rules, for example, As-Built Configuration.

    End of the note.

If the rule you want to change is not listed in the table, choose   Edit   Insert New  , and enter the values you want in the Rule and Setting columns.

  4. Save your entries.

Assigning Activities to Activity Groups

You can control how activities are grouped in the Activity Manager and on the Permissions tab page of User Group Maintenance.

Note Note

You first need to define activity groups in Activity Group Maintenance (see Activity Group Maintenance).

End of the note.
  1. On the Activity Groups tab page of Activity Maintenance, assign the retrieved activity to one or more activity groups.

  2. Save your entries.
