SFC Number

A unique identifier representing a specific instance of a particular material being built during the manufacturing process.

This identifier can be referred to as a shop floor control (SFC) number or an SFC. It is unique across sites (see Site).

Example Example

PRINT900 is a material produced by the ABC plant. The SFC number ABC5238 represents a specific instance of PRINT900 that is currently being built.

An SFC number represents a quantity of the product instances, depending on the lot size of its material.

A non-serialized SFC is an SFC number with a quantity greater than one. If the SFC number has a quantity greater than one, it can be created to represent the lot of the specific instances of the material being built.

If the SFC number has a quantity of one, it can be the serial number of the specific instance of the material being built.

Structure

After its release and during its life on the shop floor, an SFC number can have one of the following statuses:

Status	Description
New	Indicates that the SFC number has been created and released, but has not been started at any operation For example, an SFC number newly generated by Create and Release SFC at the first operation on the routing has a New status.
In Queue	In the POD, SFC numbers that are signed off have the In Queue status. For more information, see POD Button Activities.
Active	Indicates that the SFC number has been started at this operation In the POD, SFC numbers in the POD Work List have the Active status. Operators can complete SFC numbers with the Active status.
Complete Pending	Indicates one of the following: There is an applicable sample plan for the SFC number and it cannot be moved to the next production operation until sampling results are reported (see Sampling). This SFC number has open buyoffs and cannot be moved to the next operation until these buyoffs are realized.
Hold	When an SFC number is on hold, it indicates that the SFC number should not continue through the manufacturing process until the hold is released (see SFC Place Hold).
Done	Indicates that the SFC number has done one of the following: Reached the Done step on a routing Completed the last step on a production routing Manually been assigned the Done status Note An SFC number with the Done status undergoes no more processing in the system. If the Track Inventory system rule under Production Tracking in System Rule Maintenance is set to true, the system automatically places SFC numbers with the Done status in floor stock, using their SFC numbers as their inventory IDs (see Inventory ID). Golden Unit	Indicates that SFC number has the Done status and is a perfect unit SFC numbers in the Golden Unit status are excluded from calculations such as yield (see Golden Unit).
Done (Hold)	Indicates that the SFC number has the Done status and is on hold
Scrapped	Indicates that the SFC number has been scrapped (see SFC Scrap/Delete)
Invalid	Indicates that the SFC number has a quantity of zero The system sets an SFC number's quantity to zero when the SFC number is serialized, split, or merged into another SFC number (see Serialize, SFC Split, and SFC Merge).
Returned	Indicates that the SFC number has been returned
Deleted	Indicates that the SFC number is marked for deletion during archiving, but the system has not yet deleted it (see Archiving and SFC Unscrap/Undelete)

Each SFC number can have only one status at a time.

Integration

The system generates SFC numbers on release of a shop order (see How SAP ME Generates SFC Numbers). You can also generate an SFC number using Create Trackable SFC (see Create Trackable SFC).

You can view and change system rules that control how data is handled during SFC number serialization and split and those that determine SFC number statuses in System Rule Maintenance (see Serialization Rules and Order Rules).

You define numbering patterns that uniquely identify SFC numbers in Next Numbering Maintenance (see Numbering Patterns).
