SAP Manufacturing Execution is made up of a series of activities. Depending on your role in your manufacturing plant, you may use a variety of system activities.

When you use the system, you can work with the following main types of activities:

  • Production activities

Production operators, lead operators, supervisors, and other shop floor personnel use production activities to give the system precise information about the work they are performing. The system feeds this information into reports for managers to make better decisions about the shop floor.

You use each production activity for a different purpose and the way to use it varies with each activity.

  • Maintenance activities

You use maintenance activities while you are implementing the system on your shop floor (see Working with Maintenance Activities). You enter maintenance information so the system can use it to track work during production and create reports (see Reporting).

For example, you enter information about the products you make and the components you use to make them in Material Maintenance. You enter information about your assembly lines in Operation Maintenance, Resource Maintenance, Resource Type Maintenance and Routing Maintenance.

After rollout, you can use some maintenance activities for entering additional information. For example, you can change or add parts, products, and BOMs.

  • Hook point activities (see Hook Point Activity)

  • Reports (see Reporting)
