Example documentationExample: Test Failure, Analysis, and Repair

There is a test failure for a PCA board. The failure must be analyzed and the cause logged as a defect. The appropriate disposition for the defect must then be determined and logged.

Prerequisites

  1. The material ACME_PCB_3451 is a PCA board.

  2. The operation PCB_TEST_ANALYZE_REPAIR is being performed at resource PCB_STATION.

  3. A PCA board with SFC number ACME-3451-000004 is to be processed at this operation.

  4. In NC Client Maintenance, you have retrieved your NC client (for example, LOG_NC) and selected the Can Log Primary NC Code and Log Secondary NC Code checkboxes to ensure logging of all three types of NC codes.

Process

Logging a Test Failure

Proceed as follows to log a test failure:

  1. In default Operation POD, choose the operation PCB_TEST_ANALYZE_REPAIR and resource PCB_STATION.

  2. Enter SFC number ACME-3451-000004 in the SFC field and start it.

The external event: test fails at the bottom left test point with failure code F1-22.

  3. Select the FAIL NC code in the NC Selection plug-in.

  4. Enter Test P358 failed with failure code F1-22 in the Comments field in the NC Data Entry plug-in.

  5. Enter the Ref Des value from the test point, in the Ref Des field in the NC Data Entry plug-in.

  6. Enter the failure ID and choose Add button in the NC Data Entry plug-in to log the FAIL NC code.

Analyzing and Logging a Defect

Proceed as follows to analyze and log a defect:

  1. Choose the NC Tree button in the POD.

  2. In the NC Data Tree, select the NC code you logged and choose the Return to POD button. Secondary NC code groups and codes are displayed in NC Selection.

External event: examination and test of component finds that the component has a bent lead that is not making contact.

  3. Choose the COMPONENT NC group and the LEAD-BENT NC code in the NC Data Entry plug-in.

  4. Enter values in the Ref Des field and in all other required fields in NC Data Entry plug-in.

  5. Choose the Add button to log the LEAD-BENT NC code.

Logging a Repair

Proceed as follows to log a repair:

  1. External event: component is removed, repaired and reinstalled on the board.

  2. Choose the NC Tree button in the POD. The NC Data Tree plug-in opens.

  3. Choose the row in the NC Data Tree with the LEAD-BENT NC code and choose the Return to POD button. The REPAIRACTION NC code group and codes are displayed in NC Selection.

  4. Select the DONE NC code in NC Selection (displays DONE in the NC Code field in NC Data Entry).

  5. Choose the Add button in NC Data Entry. The DONE NC code is logged, and the NC states of the logged FAIL, LEAD-BENT, and DONE NC codes are changed to Closed.

The figure below provides a high level flow of the Log NC test, analysis and repair example:

Recommendation Recommendation

We recommend adding a Comment field to the data type for the DONE NC code to enable the user to comment on the specifics of the repair or the condition of the component.

End of the recommendation.
