Process documentationSetting Up Substeps

You use this process to define substeps (see Substep). Substeps allow finer-grained control of the production process than routing steps.

Process

  1. In Substep Maintenance, you create a library of substeps for your operators (see Substep Maintenance).

  2. In Operation Maintenance, on the Substeps tab page, you assign one or more substeps to the operation where operators process these substeps (see Operation Maintenance).

  3. In Routing Maintenance, you add the operation to a routing. The system copies substeps and their attributes to the routing step. Note that you can change the Substep Maintenance and Operation Maintenance records without affecting production or Routing Maintenance records.

    Note Note

To view the substeps, double-click the routing step to open the Routing Step Properties screen (see Routing Step Properties). You can edit substep attributes at the routing step level.

You can assign components and attach work instructions to the substeps on the Routing Substep Properties screen (see Substep Details). To select components from the Traceable tree on the BOM Components tab of the Routing Substep Properties screen, you must enter the BOM name and its version on the Main tab in Routing Maintenance.

    End of the note.
  4. In POD Maintenance, you assign the Substep List (SUBSTEP_LIST_DISPLAY) activity to the POD. When the SFC number reaches the operation, the system displays substeps in the POD Substep List (see Substep List).
