Background documentationTransfer of Production Order for Configurable Product

This function lets you transfer a production order that contains characteristics of a configurable product from SAP ERP to SAP ME. In SAP ME, you use the corresponding Production shop order with characteristics for make-to-order production.

Example Example

You have a configurable product BIKE with the following options that you can choose while creating a sales order:

  • Frame size:

    • 15

    • 16

    • 17

    • 18

    • 19

  • Color:

    • White

    • Red

    • Yellow

    • Green

    • Blue

The options you choose become characteristics of the produced material.

End of the example.

Prerequisites

SAP ERP
  • You have set up your system for using variant configuration in sales and in production. To do so, see the Variant Configuration (LO-VC) documentation, which you can find in SAP Library for SAP ERP at http://help.sap.comInformation published on SAP site.

  • In the partner profile that configures the message types for the communication to SAPMEINT, you have configured basis type LOIPRO04 for distributing production orders. For more information, see SAP Note 2198577Information published on SAP site.

SAP ME
  • In System Rule Maintenance, you have verified that the Enable Replication of ME Routing to ERP rule is set to No.

  • In POD Maintenance, you have configured your POD to display the following plug-ins:

    • Characteristic List (SHOPORDERCHAR_LIST)

    • Substep List (SUBSTEP_LIST_DISPLAY)

Activities

To create a production order for a configurable product and to augment its routing (for example, by adding work instructions to substeps), you proceed as follows:

  1. In SAP ERP, you create characteristics with class type 300 and dependencies.

  2. In SAP ERP, you create raw components and configurable top material.

  3. In SAP ERP, you create a dependency profile and assign SAP ME-relevant object dependencies to it. Assign a configurable material to the profile.

  4. In SAP ERP, you create a configuration profile for the configurable material.

  5. In SAP ERP, you create a BOM for the configurable material and assign selection rules and PRT documents to the components.

  6. In SAP ERP, you create a routing with operations and suboperations. You assign selection rules to the operations and suboperations, and assign PRT documents and components to the operations.

  7. You transfer master data to SAP ME.

    Note Note

The sequence in which you transfer master data from SAP ERP to SAP ME before transferring the production order is critical for the production order merge process.

    End of the note.
    1. You transfer materials (components and a top material).

You can view them in Material Maintenance. The top-level material is of the Configurable type.

    2. You transfer a BOM.

You can view it in BOM Maintenance. The BOM is of the Configurable type.

    3. You transfer a routing.

You can view it in Routing Maintenance. The routing is of the Configurable type.

    4. In SAP ME, you download profiles in Profile Maintenance.

  8. In SAP ME, you augment the Configurable routing as needed. For example, you can add work instructions with selection rules to substep and steps, add simultaneous groups, or add a substep group and a substep type to the substeps.

  9. In SAP ERP, you create a sales order for the configurable material and select characteristic values.

  10. You create and release a production order for this sales order to initiate the make-to-order process.

  11. SAP ERP sends the production order to SAP ME based on the DRF filter settings. The production order IDoc contains a list of characteristics and selection rules assigned to this particular make-to-order process.

  12. SAPMEINT creates a corresponding Production shop order using the order merge process. It also creates a shop order-specific BOM and a shop order-specific routing in SAP ME.

  13. You release the shop order in SAP ME.

  14. When you produce the material, you can view its characteristics in the POD Characteristic List plug-in or in Shop Order Maintenance.
