Process documentationSystem Configuration to Collect Parent Serial

You can use this process to set up the system to collect the parent serial number (see Collect Parent Serial Number).

Process

  1. In Material Maintenance, you create a top-level material as follows:

    1. On the Main tab page, enter Manufactured in the Type field and select the following checkboxes:

      • Collector

      • Require Serial Number Change Before Shop Order Is Done

    2. On the System Rules tab page, change settings of the following rules to True:

      • Enable Pegging on Release

      • Enforce Pegging on Consumption

      • Create Shop Order Subassemblies

  2. In Material Maintenance, you create a material (component) as follows:

    1. On the Main tab page, enter Installation in the Type field and select the Collect Parent Serial Number checkbox.

    2. On the Build tab page, enter SFC in the Data to Collect on Assembly field.

  3. In BOM Maintenance, you create a BOM for the top-level material. You add the component of the Installation type to the BOM.

  4. In Material Maintenance, you retrieve the top-level material and specify a BOM that you have created for it in BOM Maintenance.

  5. In Next Number Maintenance, you create a numbering pattern for the SFC Serialize number type of the top-level material.

  6. In Shop Order Maintenance, you create a shop order for the top-level material. You enter an end unit number and select the Require Serial Number checkbox.

  7. In Shop Order Release, you release the shop order for the top-level material. This will also create shop orders and SFC numbers for the installation material defined in the BOM for the top-level material.

In the POD, before completing the last operation of the SFC number released for the material defined to collect the parent serial number, you can choose the Collect Parent Serial Number activity.

To view the changed parent serial number, open the Shop Order and SFC reports.
