An item that is proposed as a second, comparable line item that could
replace the item originally requested in an RFx. The bidder uses an
alternative item in an RFx response modification. The alternative item
in general conforms to the purchaser's original specifications. If the
RFx response is accepted, the purchaser selects either the original line
item, or one of the alternatives items.
