Technical Operations for SAP NetWeaver
Designing, implementing, and running SAP NetWeaver at peak performance 24 hours a day has never been more vital for your business success than today.
This guide provides a starting point for administrators in procedures for the optimal operation and use of SAP NetWeaver. It contains specific information for various administration tasks, and lists the tools that you can use to carry them out. It also refers to documentation required for these tasks. You must use this guide in combination with other documentation such as the Master Guide and the SAP Library.
This document assumes that the system or systems are running, or could be started at least once. This documentation therefore contains no information about installation. Configuration tasks are only described if they also occur during running operation.
With SAP NetWeaver 7.0, installable software units (systems, Standalone Engines, and client) and IT scenarios have been defined. The documentation in this operations manual reflects this concept.
Note
For more information about the new division into installable software units and IT scenarios, see section 3 of the Master Guide (). For more information about IT landscapes, see section 4 of the Master Guide.
This Technical Operations Manual is accordingly structured into the following main sections:

Description of the Subsections |
SAP NetWeaver Operations — General Information |
Information concerning general administration of an SAP NetWeaver system is offered by SAP Support in SAP standards for key operations processes. Each standard contains best-practice procedures on how to run the individual tasks, explanations on which tools inside SAP Solution Manager should be used, available training and services that support the adoption of the standard. You can find these documents on SAP Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com/supportofferings > Standard Support > Media Library. Further release- and SAP NetWeaver product-specific information how to carry out administration tasks you can find in this documentation in chapter Solution Life Cycle Management by Key Capability. |
Troubleshooting |
A central entry point for all issues is the SAP Technology Troubleshooting Guide on http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/TechTSG. You can find troubleshooting information (problem analysis scenarios) for specific installable software units also in the Problem Analysis Guide. |
Contains the administration tasks for databases. |
|
Contains the administration tasks for SAP NetWeaver systems on which one or more usage types of SAP NetWeaver are installed and configured. The usage types of SAP NetWeaver, which you can select during installation, include:

|
Contains the administration tasks for additional installable entities that function "standalone", and that are not really SAP NetWeaver systems. They provide a specific server function in combination with one or more usage types of SAP NetWeaver, which include:
|
|
Contains the administration tasks for client programs. Client programs are additional installable programs that are either on the local front end PCs of users or in backend systems. They are used to access functions of NW systems or standalone engines in landscapes. These include:
|
|
Contains administration information that is specific to the individual IT scenarios. |
The subsections include information about the following points (if available):
Technical system landscape (architecture)
Monitoring
Administration (tasks); these can be divided into periodic tasks and "on demand" tasks
