Function documentationStaging for Production

When you supply products to production using advanced production integration, you can plan the supply in a flexible manner, so that the products required are available when production needs them. You can stage the entire quantity of a product at once, or you can stage partial quantities of the product at intervals over a period of time. This ensures that if space at your production supply area (PSA) is limited, it is not blocked unnecessarily by products that are not required until later.

You can bring products that have been staged for production but have not been used back into the warehouse so they are available for use again.

Prerequisites

You have created the PSA in transaction Assign Bin to PSA/Product/Entitled in Warehouse (/SCWM/PSASTAGE)

You have created the minimum quantity and the replenishment quantity in transaction Assign Bin to PSA/Product/Entitled in Warehouse.

You have create the stock removal strategies. For more information, see Putaway and Stock Removal Strategies.

Features

  • You can stage products needed by production in the following ways:

    • Single-order staging

The system creates a warehouse task to move the product to the PSA for each production material request (PMR) item. Each warehouse task has a reference to a single PMR.

After the warehouse task is confirmed, the stock on the PSA has a reference to the PMR item. So the stock is reserved for the reference PMR item. Only this PMR can be used to consume the stock. You can manually release the reference to the PMR item for the stock.

This method allows you to stage products for a specific PMR, or for a PMR that has special characteristics. For example, you could stage products from a special batch for one PMR.

    • Cross-order staging

The system cumulates products from more than one PMR and creates a warehouse task to move them to the PSA together. The warehouse tasks have no reference to the PMR item.

After the warehouse task is confirmed, the stock has no reference to a PMR item. Each PMR that has an item with the product can be used to consume the stock.

This is a flexible method which allows you to stage products whether the product is required for one PMR in particular, or by several PMRs.

      Example Example

You stage a pallet of a product for use by three production lines, where each line only needs a small amount of the product. All three PMRs can be used to consume the product from the pallet.

      End of the example.
  • The system automatically chooses the source bin of the materials to be staged.

You can enter the source bin manually.

  • Quantity proposal

You can define a minimum quantity for the product on the PSA. If the quantity on the PSA, plus the quantity in any open warehouse tasks, is lower than the minimum quantity, the system creates a warehouse task to move the replenishment quantity of the product to the PSA.

For single-order staging, the system proposes a quantity for staging for each PMR item.

For cross-order staging, the system proposes a quantity for staging for each component that is required on the PSA. The system considers only PMRs with the status Released.

You can create warehouse tasks for the replenishment with a different quantity to the quantity proposed by the system. You can also create warehouse tasks to replenish products on the PSA without a proposal calculated by the system.

You can change the data that the system uses for the quantity proposals using the Business Add-In Data Collection for Staging for Production.

  • Schedule staging for production

You can schedule the regular creation of staging warehouse tasks by the system, using the report Schedule Staging for Production. To access this report, on the SAP Easy Access screen for Extended Warehouse Management, choose Start of the navigation path Work Scheduling Next navigation step Staging for Production Next navigation step Schedule Staging for Production End of the navigation path. The system creates warehouse tasks with a quantity equal to the proposed quantity, as long as the system can find the stock in the warehouse.

  • Clear PSA

After a PMR is completed, with the status Technically Completed, it is possible that there is still a quantity of the product on the PSA, and no other PMR needs the product. In this case, the product must be brought back to the warehouse so it does not occupy space on the PSA.

You can display the products on the PSA that are not attached to a PMR with the status Released. You can create warehouse tasks to bring the products back to the warehouse.

For products staged using the single-order staging method, you must release the reference document to clear the reference in the stock. If you do not release the reference document, the stock can never be used for another PMR.
