 Changes in the Product Master

Use

In the product master, you define whether the product is a catch weight product that is to be inventory-managed in EWM in two units of measure. This is primarily the case if the two units of measure are not in a fixed conversion factor to each other. If you have defined a parallel unit of measure for a base unit of measure in the product master, this product is a catch weight product.

Features

Classification of the Unit of Measure

As soon as you have processed a parallel unit of measure for a base unit of measure in the product master, the catch weight process becomes active. This enables you to decide at product level the products for which you want to implement the catch weight functions. In the product master, you decide whether one of the following units of measure are involved for the classification of the unit of measure:

  • Alternative Unit of Measure

  • Parallel UoM and Valuation Unit

  • Parallel UoM (Base UoM is Valuation Unit)

  • Alternative Parallel Unit of Measure

You can enter the respective units of measure both in the ERP system and the SCM system. When you enter these units of measure in the ERP system, you have to distribute these to the SCM system.

Tolerance Group

For a catch weight product, you can use the tolerance group to check whether a user has entered acceptable values for the logistic quantity and parallel quantity. You can use a tolerance group to prevent or minimize the number of incorrect entries made by users within the logistic process.

You assign a tolerance group to the corresponding catch-weight-relevant products in the product master. You can configure this tolerance group in Customizing. For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Extended Warehouse Management under Start of the navigation path Master Data Next navigation step Catch Weight Next navigation step Define Catch Weight Tolerance Groups End of the navigation path .

If you have already defined product-specific tolerance groups, you can also define tolerance groups at warehouse level. This enables the system to choose this definition of the product-specific tolerance group for the assigned warehouse number. For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Extended Warehouse Management under Start of the navigation path Master Data Next navigation step Catch Weight Next navigation step Define Catch Weight Tolerance Groups at Warehouse Level End of the navigation path .

Catch Weight Profile

If you assign a catch weight profile to the catch weight products, in Customizing you can set whether it is mandatory to enter the catch weight quantity at goods receipt, goods issue, and at the work center. In this case, you enter the parallel unit of measure. For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Extended Warehouse Management under Start of the navigation path Master Data Next navigation step Catch Weight Next navigation step Define Catch Weight Input Control End of the navigation path .

If you want to move a stock in the warehouse that you have already recorded exactly, you do not need to enter the parallel quantity again.

Activities

In the product master, decide for the required products whether they are to be inventory-managed in two units of measure in EWM, and whether a special input control is to occur for these.

Example

Base unit of measure “piece” has been defined for a product. However, you receive this product in boxes, with 6 pieces in each box. This means you can enter a box as an alternative unit of measure, which contains 6 pieces of this product. This alternative unit of measure is therefore an optional unit of measure.

If the product is iron piping, you can enter “meter“ as the parallel unit of measure. The meters are then the unit of measure you use to manage the inventory. Since converting meters into kilograms is very simple, you can also enter kilograms as an alternative parallel unit of measure.
