An APO resource refers to a machine, person, installation, means of transport, or anything else that has a limited capacity and a specific function.

In APO, the following resources can be modeled:

• Resources that use working time data to determine available capacity. The capacity of these resources is available continuously during the working times. There is a choice between single activity resources, where only one activity can be run at a time, and multi activity resources, where multiple activities can be run at the same time. Single activity resources and multi activity resources are used when planning with the APO components Capable to Match (CTM) and Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS), where production dates of orders and operations are planned ‘to the second’.
• Bucket resources, whose available capacity is defined in quantities (such as the transportation capacity or storage capacity), or daily rates (such as production rates). Bucket resources are used when planning with the APO component Supply Network Planning (SNP) and can be used to plan in detail at day level.
