  Packaging Unit

Definition

A unit of measure that is used as packaging for a material.

Use

A packaging unit can contain the product itself, (for example, a bottle) or hold other packaging units, (for example, a box containing bottles).

You can print specific labels for a material for each packaging unit specified and enter the following information:

  • Label size

  • Generation variant

  • Number of labels per packaging unit

  • Validity area

Transport packaging together with its labels could look like this:

  • Bottle with one horizontal A6 label

  • Box with two A5 labels (on opposite sides)

  • Pallet with four A4 labels (on all sides)

Integration

You specify the packaging units that can be used in Global Label Management in Customizing for Global Label Management . To do this, you refer to the units of measure in the SAP System.

You specify the relationship between the packaging units, for example, that a crate should contain 15 bottles, under Alternative Units of Measure in the material master, see Specifying Packaging Hierarchies for a Material and Packaging Hierarchy .

Example

A packaging unit could be one of the following:

  • Can

  • Bottle

  • Barrel

  • Canister

  • Crate

  • Case

  • Bag

  • Box

  • Pallet
