Fast Entry of Characteristics in Production Orders

Use

In production orders you can configure the header material and co-products simply and quickly using the Fast Data Entry tab. You can enter value assignments for up to ten characteristics without having to go to the characteristic value assignment screen. This greatly reduces entry effort, particularly for materials with few characteristics and for preconfigured materials.

Integration

Production, Materials Management and Sales and Distribution make shared use of the same object dependencies. This is why you cannot maintain separate object dependencies for production orders, purchase orders or sales documents.

If you want your object dependencies to be application-specific, you can evaluate an object characteristic in the object dependencies that you have defined in the MILL_APPL_ID field of the VBAK table. The content of this field is PP for production orders.

Prerequisites

If you want to use fast entry of characteristics for production orders, you must have made the following settings in Customizing of Production :

You have created a characteristic display that includes the desired characteristics for the production order.

You define a characteristic display at Shop Floor ControlMaster DataOrderFast Entry of Characteristics in Production OrderDefine Characteristic Display for Overview Screen (mySAP Mill Products)

You have assigned an application group that includes the Production Order transaction to this characteristic display.

You can also use reference characteristics in production orders. You can activate this function in Customizing for Production , by choosing Shop Floor ControlMaster DataOrderDefine Additional Settings for Production Orders . For the relevant plant, set the indicator Use Ref. Characteristics .

If you want to manufacture the configurable material for stock, the material must be contained in an active integration model.

Features

In the production order you can display up to ten characteristics on the Fast Data Entry tab using a characteristic display; you can then configure the characteristics when you enter order items. There is thus no need to branch to the configuration detail screen, provided you only want to assign values to a maximum of 10 different characteristics.

The Fast Data Entry tab page also shows you the status of the configuration. The system displays the following symbols in the Confign column to indicate whether the configuration is complete or whether there are still inconsistencies:

Symbols in the status display when creating, changing, and displaying production orders

Symbol

Meaning:

The configuration is incomplete (mandatory characteristics are missing) or inconsistent (object dependencies conflict); it can be changed.

The configuration is complete and consistent. It can be changed.

The material in this order item has already been configured in the material master or in a sales order and the item only points to the configuration there. Changes in the material master and in the sales order are therefore immediately visible in the production order.

If you branch to the characteristic value assignment screen of this item, the system copies the configuration. Consequently, the configuration of the production order is independent of the original configuration. If you change the configuration of the material master or sales order, the change is no longer available in the production order

The configuration cannot be changed.

The configuration does not exist or the material cannot be configured.

Reference Characteristics

Your can use the fields from the VBAP and VCSD_UPDATE structures as reference characteristics for the configuration of production orders.

You have write access to the following fields of the VBAP structure. This data can then be evaluated in your object dependencies:

Characteristic Inheritance from Components to Items

Often a material to be manufactured has similar characteristics to the materials from which it is manufactured. You can therefore inherit the characteristic value assignments of components to order items.

For this purpose, the system shows you all components of the production order on the Fast Data Entry tab in the Components screen area.

In a list box you can define which data is to be inherited and how.

Automatic propagation material variant

The component must be configured in the material master. The system then inherits the characteristic value assignments in the material master to each order item subsequently created.

Automatic propagation batch

A classified batch must be assigned to the component. The system then inherits the characteristic value assignments of the batch to each order item subsequently created.

Manual propagation material variant

The component must be configured in the material master. The system then inherits the characteristic value assignments in the material master to a selected order item.

Manual propagation batch

A classified batch must be assigned to the component. The system then inherits the characteristic value assignments of the batch to a selected order item.

When inheritance is carried out, the system takes only characteristics of the same name into account.

Select the component whose characteristic values you want to inherit.

Select the order item to which you want to inherit the characteristic values.

Choose the Prop . pushbutton.

The system inherits the characteristic values of the component to the characteristics of the same name in the selected order item.

The system inherits the characteristic values of the component to the characteristics of the same name in each new order item created.
