Use

When a purchase order or allocation table containing generic article items is processed, the system analyzes the quota scales (for variant-creating characteristics) that have been defined. The system uses these quotas to suggest what proportion of the total quantity is allocated to each variant of the generic article.

Note

You can only create value and quota scales for characteristics of the character string data type.

You can use this method to calculate quantities to be allocated to variants if the generic article in question has no more than two variant-creating characteristics. It is best suited, however, for generic articles with a single variant-creating characteristic, for example for articles of the same color that differ in size.

Before you can define quota scales for a characteristic, you must create a value scale for it. A value scale is a table containing all the values that have been defined for a characteristic. All existing values are copied to the value scale automatically when you create it. Each value in the value scale can then be assigned a quota from the quota scale you create. You can create several quota scales per value scale.

You can also use quota scales as input help for entering component lists for lot articles.

Integration

When you create a generic article item in a purchase order or allocation table, the system runs a search to see if quota scales exist. There are a number of steps (described below) in the search, which stops as soon as a quota scale is found:

You should note the following when calculating default quantities:

The system searches for existing quota scales. Once default quantities have been calculated, you can use a dialog function to choose a different quota scale, either by specifying one manually or by having the system propose all the existing quota scales so that you can choose one. Then the default quantities are recalculated.

You can make settings in Customizing for the allocation table type that determine whether and how the system uses the existing quota scales. If the wrong default quantities are calculated, you have to overwrite them rather than calculate new defaults.

The system does not assign total quantities here, as it does with purchase orders and allocation tables, but instead uses the absolute quotas as default values. Here, you do not need to create a quota scale for each variant-forming characteristic. For characteristics without a quota scale, the system assumes quota 1 for all the values. You can also use the input help for generic articles with more than two variant-forming characteristics.

Features

The following functions are available for processing value and quota scales:

This function enables you to update a value scale whenever the values for its associated characteristic change. It is advisable to use this reconciliation function immediately after every characteristic value change. You have to carry out this reconciliation function before you can maintain quotas in the assigned quota scales for a new characteristic value, for example.

The system uses the data entered here to find quota scales. You can maintain data here in such a way that the system will find different quota scales for the same value scale depending on which merchandise category or site is involved. You could use this function to make the proportions of merchandise allocated to each size variant dependent on the region being supplied, for example.

Note

In the case of a site you must specify the customer number of the site here. You can also enter data for customers that do not have a site master record, but this data is not taken into account in the quota scale search.

You can only use this transaction if you have implemented the user exit EXIT_SAPLWMVC_002. In this user exit you can design your own program logic to allow you to create or change quota scales. You could, for example, have the quotas for your quota scales calculated on the basis of sales data from the Retail Information System (RIS).
