Configuring the Mobile Homepage Media Feed Module

Prerequisites

You are assigned the Shared Workspace Creation role.
Enterprise feeds with images or videos have been created in the portal.

Context

The Mobile Homepage Media Feed module, which is available only in mobile homepages, enables you to view images or videos, one at a time.

You configure the Media Feed module by selecting an enterprise feed from a gallery, which displays all the enterprise feeds in the system to which you have access permissions.

You need to select an enterprise feed that contains images or videos, and specify the type of the media in the module settings. When you specify that the media type is video, when used on an iPad device, a play icon is superimposed on the graphic, to indicate to the end user that you can tap to play the video.

Note

The Mobile Homepage Media Reader module provided in version 1.1 SP03 is now deprecated, and has been replaced by the Mobile Homepage Media Feed module. Any existing mobile homepages that include this deprecated module should continue to work as previously. For new mobile homepages, use the new Mobile Homepage Media Feed module and the instructions that follow.

Procedure

Create a mobile homepage that contains the Media Feed module.
In the mobile homepage, choose Configure Module in the Media Feed module.
A gallery is displayed containing all the enterprise feeds in the system for which you have access permissions. You can hover over an enterprise feed to view the channels contained in the feed.
Choose Select Feed to select an enterprise feed that contains images or videos.
Note
If you select an enterprise feed that does not contain media items, its contents are displayed in the module, one feed item at a time.
Choose Done.
The first media feed item is displayed in the module, and you can page to see additional feed items, if available.

To return to the gallery to select a different enterprise feed, use the icon.
To configure the module settings, choose and then choose Settings:
- Number of Entries in Grouped View: Set the maximum number of entries that is returned by each channel in the feed. This setting is relevant only when the display mode of the enterprise feed is By Channel.
- Media Type: Select the type of the media, Video, or Image.
Choose Done to save your changes.
After you have configured the modules for the mobile homepage, perform final configurations, such as adding members and managers, and publishing the mobile homepage.

Results

When users open the mobile homepage on an iPad device, the Media Feed modules display a single media item at a time. In Media Feed modules that display video, a play icon is superimposed on the graphic, to indicate to the end user that you can tap to launch the video in the default player.
