Background documentation Using SSL With an Intermediary Server  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

You can also use SSL for connections where an intermediary server is used. As the intermediary server, you can use the SAP Web Dispatcher or other Web proxy. A typical scenario is to place the intermediary server in the DMZ and the AS Java in the intranet zone.

Depending on the proxy used, options exist to use either an end-to-end SSL connection or to terminate the connection on the intermediary server and establish a new one to the backend system. See the figure below.
